Adagio For Strings - DJ Tiësto

Adagio For Strings is a nearly 10 minute piece of Trance music mixed by the legendary DJ Tiësto. This song is a very well done remix of the classical piece, written by Samuel Barber. Despite it's much slower origins, this song begins with a quick beat. The song diverges from this near 2:32, where it takes on a dreamlike quality. A slowly evolving background which creates a sound not unlike that caused by cupping one's ears. This muffled sound seems to grow for a while, becoming more clear, until it melds back into the previous beat. At 5:47, Tiësto adds a sound that I can only describe as reminiscent of a military klaxon. The number of different sounds going on at once boggle the mind, and it is very difficult to concentrate while listening to this. Nevertheless the song is nothing short of amazing in my mind.

I personally enjoy classical music as well as "Techno" and in my opinion, Tiësto's blend of these two genres is executed brilliantly. After listening to the original it becomes much more obvious what portions of the remix are used directly from the classical version of this song. While some might call this song mindlessly repetitive, I enjoy listening to the evolution of the sounds, as the song changes from the minimalist dreamlike state to the fast paced dance beat.
